When and why should we pray

I’m going to start off with some bible verses and then maybe close with a sample prayer.

First off why do we pray? Is it because we hear that’s what we’re supposed to do. Is it because God (Jesus) tells us to? Should we feel closer to God when we pray? Should we feel happier, lighter on our feet, relieved? What are we supposed to get out of praying? I say if we pray for ourselves, we are missing the target altogether.

As for me, I will call upon God,

And the Lord shall save me.

Evening and morning and at noon

I will pray, and cry aloud,

And He shall hear my voice.

He has redeemed my soul in peace from the battle that was against me,

For there were many against me.

Psalm 66:16-18

Well it sure seems that in those three verses in Psalms we’ve answered all the questions from above.

The book of James 5:16 reads Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another that you may be healed, it goes on to read “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” So here we read that prayer is healing as well. This is one I hold near to my heart 1 Thessalonians 5:17 it simply reads “Pray without ceasing.” BAM!

Jesus gives us an outline of how to pray in what order to pray in but not so much what to say that’s between you and God. The bible tells us in Matthew 6:6 “But when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father(God) who is in the secret place; and your Father(God again) who sees in secret will reward you openly.”

In closing I think we see when we pray we are rewarded, we are blessed, we are saved, and yes we are comforted. All though this simple little thing called prayer.

Father god, Lord we come before you today. we thank you for who you are we thank you that you blessed us with life this morning. We ask that you walk before us today guide our steps go before us Lord. God work in us that we may bring glory to Your name. Lord I ask that you watch over our loved one’s keep them from harm today. Father as we travel bless us, as we work Lord keep us to remember we work not only for our earthly boss Lord but we work to glorify you in all that we do this day and everyday. Lord work in us to love one another as You love us. Father I ask that You bless this day bring me home to my family Lord that I may love them and comfort them Bless our night that all we say and do be glorifying to your name. It’s in Your sons name we pray Amen
